Too much like Nicci French and a little too predictable. Hawkins has created an intriguing world, grieving ex-wives, women with wildness in their hearts, men that drink a little too much and are a little too rough. Despite her best (I hope) efforts, though, the book doesn't transcend into something bigger than a simple whodunit -- and not a particularly thrilling one, at that.

Not the best thriller I've ever read, but not the worst. I didn't feel a connection to any of the characters which is why it isn't getting a higher rating from me. But, it kept me hooked for the last 100 pages...so I'll give credit where credit is due. I just want to find a thriller that I don't predict the ending of within the first 100 pages...

Everyone hailed this as the "Must Read of 2015" so I had high expectations going into it...and the book fell way short of those expectations. Flat ending. Static, despicable characters. Predictable twist. Just overall not a piece of literature I would recommend to anyone who reads more than 1 book every decade.

If you love who-done-its, you'll love this book. Your suspicion and guesswork continues right up to the very end of the novel. I didn't really feel like I had a favourite character in this book. The author has an extraordinary way of making you both sympathize and hate each character. Worth a read.
