The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith is a book that promises a lot with its magical winemaking and a witch's quest for justice in historical France. Unfortunately, I found the book to be slow and tedious. While the premise was great and had a lot of potential, I struggled to connect with the characters and felt disconnected throughout the story.

One of the book's positives is the author's elegant writing style and creativity. The beginning and ending were enjoyable, but the middle failed to deliver. It was a "saggy" middle that lacked excitement and failed to capture my attention.

Overall, I was disappointed with The Vine Witch. While it had a lot of potential, it could have delivered on the promise of an exciting story about magical winemaking and a witch's quest for justice.

Interesting concept. But the lack of the world building made me bored and sometimes confused. I gotta say the storyline was pretty solid.

If you like historical fantasy with magic (very little level magic), you might enjoy this book. I just don’t think this one is for me

Bailed at 9%.

To me this smacks suspiciously like another cheap, quasi-feminist tale. I don’t like the overabundance of descriptions (wich are proving to be a DEAD giveaway for these kinds of books), and this is a good example of a story that isn’t allowed to live it’s own life.

Already this early in, it feels hollow, and like a lot of it’s main topics are going to lack any kind of substantial foundation, or serve the story in any useful way.

Reminds me A LOT of «The Lost Apothecary» in both structure, writing and lack of soul, and I didn’t like THAT book either.

Demora un poco en tornarse verdaderamente atrapante, pero por suerte lo hace. Igual es un poco predecible en sus giros de trama. Incluso el último ultimo, lo puedes ver venir desde unos capítulos antes si estás prestando atención.

When I first started this novel I wasn't sure it was really going to be for me but I have to say that I really enjoyed it - well crafted story, interesting characters and a protagonist it was easy to root for. I read a review that described it as an adult fairy tale and I think this is an apt description. The world building also appealed greatly.

I liked that it didn’t focus on the romance of the book but more the adventure and storyline. (It’s very appropriate for some one not wanting their young adults reading “smut” there is one fade to black scene and that’s it)

A book with a unique concept and a refreshing magic system in the way that much of it reflects real-life magic, herbalism and the like. It was obvious the author did her research, and I enjoyed learning a surprising amount about wine-making as I followed the main character, Elena’s, journey through the story.
As far as world building goes, there was just enough to give me a taste of the different kinds of witches and magic-users that live beyond the french region in which the story takes place.
The ending was satisfying, if a little drawn out for my taste, and while predictable, it still managed to throw in an extra twist.

A Great Book

I really enjoyed this book! It was fun, and I didn't really expect the way it ended. Definitely recommend this one.
