This is a wonderful story with gorgeous pictures that cover the life of Terry Fox from being a young kid to the beginning of his run across Canada. It's told from the perspective of his friend, Doug, and I enjoyed hearing some more details about who he was as a kid as a result of the perspective. This is not a book that chronicles the run itself, but it more about Terry Fox as a person and what led him to do the run. This one is somewhat more text heavy, so this is something to be cognizant of in terms of who you're sharing it with. Wonderful story!

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Mary Beth Leatherdale and Penguin Random House Canada through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Forgive me while I take a moment to stop crying! As a Canadian I grew up knowing the story of Terry Fox, his courage, tenacity, and his ability to never let life bring him down. This story was a beautiful story of Terry and his best friend Doug and their short but amazing journey together. I loved learning more about Terry as a child and the struggles he went through from diagnosis to learning to walk again.
I think Terry would be very proud of the legacy he left behind and the awareness he raised and still raises for cancer every year. I lived in Germany for four years and the local school near the base participates yearly in the Terry Fox run, it was amazing to witness Terry’s legacy reach that far across the globe.

I received a gifted copy of Terry Fox and Me from Penguin Random House Canada in exchange for an honest review.

There are so many texts about Terry Fox’s inspirational life and I have been searching for a more student-friendly story that I could share with my younger students. Terry Fox and Me is a story that is told from the perspective of Terry Fox’s friend and his witness of his friend’s journey of hope and determination. It is a story told in a friendly narrative way that draws readers into the quite ordinary beginnings of Terry’s life. The friendship between Terry and Doug is inspiring and gives a lot of insight to the incredible people that Terry and Doug were.

Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada for the book.
