as much hope this book gave as much it was painful. to suck the marrow of life is hard, it’s exhausting, it takes time and it isn’t sometimes pleasant.
i related to neil so much i saw myself in him. to be told you’ll spend your entire life living someone else’s dream and not even enjoying any parts of freedom not even the simplest of it; the freedom of thinking, of dreaming, of living. i can’t blame him for what he did.
and i believe everyone in their early age should have a teacher like mr. keating, mr. keating was a wise man, he existences felt like an apology for the cruelty of this world and i believe life was harsh on so many young people and the deserve that apology.

Im still confused as to HOW this was allowed to be printed. Like the book is not nearly as good as the movie. I started the movie and paused halfway through and somehow ended up reading the book first. NO BECAUSE LITERALLY WTF WAS THIS.
this book was so incredibly BORING !!
to say i was disappointed is an understatement. being so incredibly in love with the film, i was so excited to pick up this read. this is probably the first time i would ever say the film is wayyy better than the book. the plot has no depth and the ‘climax’ is so insanely lacking. i developed no emotional connection to any of the characters and i feel like their personalities were not fluffed out. i felt no enjoyment through the triumphs and self discoveries. i think this may be due to the length of the book; it was pretty short and i feel like more words were needed to advance the story. i genuinely don’t understand how someone read this and said “this would make a great film adaption”, but i’m glad they did because at least now we have good representation of a promising story which initially fell short of anything remotely brilliant.

its one of those rare cases where the movie is better than the book and im not talking about the writing style or the overall vibe but the unnecessary addition of certain scenes that goes completely against the character itself. but overall its a good read and for me personally reading what a characters going through hits harder than when im watching so i could connect better with neil this time

Wow. Would never have thought I would put such a low rating to a book but also to this book in particular.
One must know the book is a novelization of the movie. You take the movie and it's word for word the same, but with none of its emotion and none of its homoerotic subtext. Aka what makes the movie so great in the first place.
It's my favorite movie of all time and has been since I turned 16 (I'm 22) but this book does not compare to its beauty. Hell I don't know why someone would write that. It's not literary at all, and you do not feel a single thing throughout the whole thing. This book should never have seen the light of day and please do yourself a favor and just watch the movie.
Also ***spoiler*** the fact that the author added an uncalled for SA scene that portraied my boy Knox as an abuser makes me want to find them and fight them. This boy deserves the world and would never have done such a thing. This was added for shock value and makes me want to puke.
