Usually, I am not a very religious person. I think everyone has a right to believe what they want, but forcing it onto others seems harsh. Danny Trejo is the perfect example of someone who does not push their religion onto others, but allows it to guide his life in positive ways. He used Christ to help others instead of shaming them. I really respect the fact that he doesn’t view himself as any higher than someone living on the streets, or serving time in prison, because he’s been there, and could’ve went back, but his determination and work ethic saved him. Highly recommended read.
I listened to Danny Trejo narrate his story via audiobook, and hearing his chuckles, sadness, and anger all enhanced the story for me. It feels like listening to your grandfather telling stories about his childhood.

So I actually listened to the audiobook since Danny was the one who read it. Listening to Danny tell his story was great. If you have the option to listen then I highly recommend!

Holy shit! I don't normally read biographies, but this one hit me so hard, almost making me cry on several occasions (okay, I admit, I did actually cry a couple of times). It resonated with some of my own mislived past, and it humanised and gave me a deeper appreciation for the power of personal redemption and self-awareness, and for the man who I'd always loved and admired in his film and show appearances. Danny, you are a fucking legend!
Inspirational AF. Danny has me walking around with my head held high giving my 9 year old pep talks letting her know “You’re THE SHIT, remember that when you take school pictures today.” Etc etc
