Danny Trejo, a legend. This book makes me want to sit and listen to him share more stories, or watch him work. The book itself was repetitive, but the structure made sense at the closing. As a reader, the epilogue was Trejo’s best on an emotional standpoint. I consumed this book quickly as he kept me company weeding books about addiction, the justice system and crime in at the library where I work. (Did not plan that!)

DID NOT FINISH

Very interesting story, but the language and content was too heavy for me.

Wow. Uncle Machete is an absolute legend. Danny Trejo's life reads like fiction. His memoir was fascinating. I'm not a big nonfiction person, but I couldn't put this down. I wouldn't know where to start on how to summarize Danny Trejo's life. He's devoted his life since he got sober and left prison to sobriety, God, and helping people, and it was cool to hear the life and Hollywood perspective of this famous guy who's gone through so much and done so many amazing things, but who's still so real, raw, and humble. Highly recommend the audiobook! It was inspiring to hear him share his journey of Crime, Redemption, and Hollywood.

Trejo My Life of Crime, Redemption, and Hollywood – whoa, what a ride listening to this audiobook has been!

Not only has Danny Trejo lived many lives on screen, but he’s also lived several lives off it. His journey has taken him through prison, fatherhood, recovery, Hollywood and more if you can believe it. Through all of it he has helped and uplifted others.

Trejo narrates the audiobook himself and if I’m honest, it took me a little while to get used to his narration. I’m so glad he did though because it would not have been the same if anyone else had narrated.

If Trejo has ever crossed your television screen, then I recommend you read this book.

Tip- if you listen to the audiobook, I suggest increasing the playback speed.

My life of crime, redemption, and Hollywood by Danny Trejo is one of the best memoirs I've ever experienced. I did read this one instead of doing my typical audiobook and I did enjoy reading it physically.

This memoir by Danny Trejo takes you from his early childhood all the way to him in his late 60s early 70s. He documents his spiral into a life of crime and drugs as well as him clawing his way from the bottom all the way to the top. He holds no punches when it comes to his marriages and relationships with family. You get to feel him and experience him as a fully rounded character and you get to experience all the development that comes along with that. You can really feel it from the book that Trejo did not hold back and gave every bit of himself to this memoir. Even though I did not live a life anything at all like Danny Trejo's, I still really felt like I emotionally connected with him as a person and felt his pain. I learned so much about Danny Trejo as a person through this narrative. I had no idea how dangerous of a person he used to be in his early years. I hold so much respect for him for the amount of people he has helped on his path to sobriety as well as his unwavering dedication to his children. while Trejo never indicates himself to be a perfect person, you can tell that his goodness is innate.

Overall I gave this memoir a solid 5/5. I feel like hits all the points in a member needs to hit as well as draws you as the reader into an emotional connection with your character. I felt I learned a lot of things I did not know and he really expand it on things that I already did. I like how this really detailed the down parts of his life in the early part of his life and not just his Hollywood stardom which is more known by most people.
