This is the last book of a series I powered through in a week. I never do that, so you know it's excellent (Well you should know..but you don't know me, so let's just assume we're friends).

There are parts of this book that I loved without question like Linus, Jamie & Britta, the happy ending (after I recovered from my personal feelings), and the fact that all the bad things were finally over and the story proved to really be a great adventure.

Heads up -- there's spoilers down below this point! Of course you're reading a review on book nine so you either read it..or you're looking for what I'm selling ;).

But I've got a problem.. and yes... I'm really dramatically upset over fictional characters.

Let's discuss Lucy/Foss/Jens for a minute:

Jens starts out sweet and perfect and of course handsome, while Foss is a hostile asshole with a curse (mind you, a curse..not an actual personality), but as time rolls on Jens makes some horrible mistakes that Lucy for some unknown reason forgives relatively quickly.. and she forgives Foss too so I'll just assume that's her thing.

But here's where my problem comes in... Lucy and Foss have a spark, not a comfort as she has with Jens.. there's heat to it.. it's good. As his curse is lessened you can see his actual personality shining through. And she doesn't cut him slack about not sharing his feelings publicly? Give him a break the man has been cursed! But Jens, he leaves her twice.. just straight up runs away and without warning. Foss doesn't leave her, ever.. and even with the bad things he's done can we please try to remember he's cursed?

And then there's the sirens.. please someone explain to me how she is captured and says her goodbyes to everyone, except Foss because it is too painful for her AND then comes out of there and is suddenly just done with Foss and ready to snuggle up and be with Jens forever? That makes me so sad/mad/overly emotional about fiction.

I get that the story needed an ending and it's a neatly wrapped package when you keep Jens.. lots of logistics with the other one that might muddle it up. I also see some of the reasons Jens was the chosen one but.. Foss just had such a pull on her heart and he didn't deserve to go out like that.. and I've read this through twice and I still can't wrap my head around how she's just over it one day.

The final thing that got me were the words.. And I knew I'd never see him again that little phrase ripped my heart out and just stomped it into a million pieces. I just can't accept the finality, the lack of even a glimmer of hope for him and her, and the fact that he's all the way back in Undraland, never to return or be heard from again...

I am quite dramatically too attached to these fictional people and I fell in love with them. It's an excellent read and despite my obvious qualms with some points and my heartache over the love story.. it was so good I can't even bring myself to move onto another story yet, because I'm not over this one.
