Colin is really boring and this checks in the show and book. He's just a whiny little baby for the entire book. (Omg I love her? Omg I'm jealous of her?) And Penelope is great, but I feel like the writing style doesn't really do the complexity of her character any justice. I do think historical romances generally are not for me because the men are usually a miss and the culture/societal expectations make me wanna vomit, generally.
Also it feels like he forces himself to settle into loving her. Fuck that. Penelope deserves better

I have a like-hate relationship with the bridgerton books, there are some points that I really enjoy and some parts that are so boring it makes me want to just abandon the series. I fear I am too far deep into this now though.
My biggest issue with this book is the reveal of lady whistledown to the rest of the ton. You’re telling me that Penelope, who feared for 10 years that her identity as lady Whistledown would be her downfall in society, who went to lengths to keep it secret because of the backlash and all that had to happen to prevent that was Colin bridgerton saying
“here’s my wife, she’s my world, love her lots. Oh and by the way she’s lady whistledown”
AND THATS IT? NO ONE HAD ANYTHING TO SAY?!
