A Goodreads friend loves this series and recommended it highly, so I checked out volume one. It was a good recommendation—the start of the series is really good! A very slow buildup as the characters are introduced and some years pass; the plot is grim but not presented in a disgusting way. I enjoyed seeing Dr. Tenma work through the moral dilemmas, confronting the possibility that sometimes you can act with pure intentions but then everything goes wrong all around you.

I assume that with eight more volumes, this is going to become something more than a simple revenge plot, which is how this volume ends. Looking forward to continuing on!

I'm reading this series along with Jimmy and I greatly enjoyed the first volume. The tension was fantastic and I know I'm going to love the exploration of duty vs. morality.
