This book was dark and twisted.
Everything Ella and Edier had to
go through just to have it ripped
away. Star-crossed lovers for sure.
I loved the family dynamic, and even
though they're technically bad guys,
they also do good. Kind of like anti-heroes.
Ahhh, that cliffy, I can't wait to see what
happens next.

Edier Grayson is the King of Shadows, but he wasn’t always. Ella Santiago grew up with him, her protector and light in the dark cartel world they shared. On her eighteenth birthday, he kissed her like she was his forever—but by morning, he was gone. Now, years later, he’s cold, ruthless, and so far out of reach… except fate has a twisted way of pulling them back together.
What I loved:
- The chemistry between Edier and Ella—explosive and undeniable.
- Ella’s resilience and strength, even when lupus and life knock her down.
- Edier’s obsessive, protective love. The guy literally watched over her every night from his surveillance room. Swoon.
- The mix of mafia drama with occult elements—witchcraft and curses added a unique twist.
- Cameos from the Santiago world! Dante fans, rejoice.
Favorite moments:
- Edier’s tattooed tally marks for every day he’s been apart from Ella.
- The scene where he finally confesses his undying love—goosebumps.
- That heartbreaking cliffhanger at the orphanage.
Favorite quote:
“Tell me forever back, and I’ll kill for it. I’ll kill for you.”
Why it’s 5 stars:
This story is dark, romantic, and completely captivating. Edier and Ella are pure yin and yang—sunshine and shadow, constantly orbiting each other but torn apart by secrets and danger. The pacing is tight, the emotions raw, and the writing beautifully vivid. It’s everything I want in a mafia romance and more.
Final thoughts:
I’m heartbroken to say this story may remain unfinished. Catherine Wiltcher, an incredible talent in the mafia romance genre, tragically passed away before completing Part 2 of this duet. Her contributions to romance were unmatched, crafting unforgettable characters and love stories that linger long after the last page.
Rush & Ruin is a testament to her brilliance, and though we may never know how Ella and Edier’s story ends, the magic she created will live on in her readers' hearts. Rest in peace, Catherine. You will be deeply missed.

Rush & Ruin: Part 1 is the third book in the Corrupt Gods Duet. This is Ella Santiago and Edier Grayson’s story.
This book is fiction but Ella’s illness seemed so real. A lot of times there is so much make believe. And the author takes artistic license when writing medical things. That wasn’t the case with Ella’s character.
I loved reading Rush and Ruin! In a perfect world no one would be sick, everyone would be rich and everything given to us. But this isn’t a perfect world. Ella is a strong young woman. Determined to live with her illness. Not let it live for her. Edier doesn’t feel like he deserves a woman such as Ella. They grew up together. Edier is older than Ella and she has always been “my heaven”.
This was a very good story and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! 5 Stars

Catherine Wiltcher has done it again. Kept me up whole night and having me wait for book 2 to see the end of these two.
Two beautiful tortured souls. Tortured in very different ways. Edier and Ella have stolen my heart in this story.
They’re both dealing with the past while living in the present. She’s his sky, his light and he her dark knight. They bring calm to each other and love each other fiercely. But, danger lurks when you’re cartel royalty and you’re never allowed privacy. You’re constantly looking over your shoulder.
It’s also a beautiful story of two little kids who loved unconditionally then grew up to just about hate each other. Then they give in to their love for each other. We’ll have to wait for book 2 to see how this story ends.
This book has trigger warnings at the beginning by the author. There’s stalking, violence, drug trafficking etc. so sensitive readers be warned.
Written in the POVs of Edier and Ella, we are transported to the past to get a bit of perspective of the present.
I love mafia romances and sometimes they’re just too violent. But this author has me hooked on this universe of Dante Santiago and his associates. I’ve read every single on of these books and let me tell you, I’m hooked on each and every character.
We are now in the second generation of this universe and it’s just as intriguing as the first generation. It’s also always good to see characters from the previous books coming to light in the new ones.
I’ve given these two tortured souls 4,75

This book was so good! The intrigue, the mystery, the angst, the twists and turns, and so much spice! I could not put this book down! I loved these characters, the plot, the writing, everything! This book is dark, action-packed, fast-paced, there’s delicious dirty talk, and the cliffhanger was devastating! I’m desperately waiting for book 2! This is my first read by Catherine Wiltcher and it won’t be my last.
