Not only informative for writers, but also a cracking memoir.

I have a love-hate relationship with King. Drat it all, the man can WRITE. Not that anyone needs to be convinced. His work stands on its own without my help. Even though what little of his fiction I have read hasn't really been for me, I can't really fault his writing.
This book was exactly what I love in nonfiction. Clear, open, interesting, and (dare I say) moving. He makes it look easy, without diminishing the weight of what it takes to write, write well, and publish your work.
I have no fault to find in On Writing and I will be reading it again sometime soon, I think. It's one of those.

A really insightful read. It's split into parts, beginning with a little memoir of King walking us through his childhood and adolescence to show his journey to becoming an author, followed by a lot of advice and guidance. He admitted to many books on writing being filled with bullsh*t, so he made sure to only share what he felt was vital. Also an amazing quote is found therein: "The road to hell is paved with adverbs."
This is definitely something I'll come back to.

I haven't actually read any of Stephen King's books, but I enjoyed reading about his life and some personal insights on the writing trade. I also liked that he already stated from the beginning that he is not some writing guru, just a guy providing his opinion on a craft that he has significant experience with.
