This is a great continuation of the back story of Dragon Age and ends shortly before the games start. Being familiar with the games, there were a lot of "ah ha" moments and character cameos that I enjoyed.

A good chunk of this book was pretty boring. A lot of walking, a lot of thoughts. This book easily could've been 200 pages shorter, honestly I felt pretty burnt out by the end. Otherwise, it did have it's very good parts. It made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me gasp. I just love how much information these books give that you do not get in the games.
Also Hafter is a very, very good boy.

It's really hard to fully judge how much I like the book versus how much I enjoy having more details on the Dragon Age setting. This continues the book series lead up to Dragon Age Origins, which spoils a few of the later reveals in the game. As such, it's definitely geared towards people like me, that were looking to have some details filled in and some context added. I don't know that it's a must-read, but it does help to clarify some aspects of the setting.
Moderate: Infidelity, Injury/Injury detail, Violence, and Murder

The Calling offers a glimpse into the deep roads of the Dragon Age universe, which I found really exciting. The vivid descriptions of this mysterious and dangerous realm were unpleasant in the best way possible. The sense of danger and impending doom was palpable and the action sequences were well-written and kept me on the edge of my seat.
I appreciated the emotional depth of the characters and their complex relationships, as well as the exploration of themes such as duty, sacrifice, and the consequences of one's actions. I just want to mention that I have a special place in my heart for the story of Nicolas and Julien.
There were moments where the story seemed to lose momentum, and I found myself wishing for a faster pace to keep the excitement and tension consistently high. That being said, I still found it to be an enjoyable read overall, particularly for the deeper insights it provided into the Dragon Age lore and the exploration of the deep roads.

This book delivers in giving us more backstory to the characters, especially Maric, Fiona and Duncan and answers a lot of questions. We also learn more about the Architect, who is a super intriguing character in my opinion. Also I just love Maric , so the more of him, the better.
