No time to write

I would write a review but I need to start the next book. My heart has been torn out. In a good way

I've just wrapped up "Paternity Case," the third book in the Hazard and Somerset series by Gregory Ashe, and I'm left with a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. As much as I wanted to dive into this book and root for Hazard and Somerset to finally embrace their romance, I find myself deeply weary of the persisting absence of it.

The town's inhabitants continue to be the embodiment of sheer horribleness, with an insane way of speaking and a seemingly endless connection to a mysterious event from Hazard and Somerset's high school years. The vague allusions to this event, which occurred over a decade ago, leave me both frustrated and perplexed.

Somerset's unrelenting obsession with Hazard, and vice versa, has started to border on the irrational and, quite frankly, horrible. It's becoming increasingly challenging to comprehend how these two will ever end up together, given the complexities and the lack of genuine communication between them.

The romance aspect of the series remains frustratingly elusive. Hazard is still entangled with Nico, while Somerset clings to his marriage. The dynamic between them is nothing short of bizarre, even as the supporting characters in their lives prove to be equally unpleasant. The usage of derogatory language and the intense hatred within the town is a constant source of discomfort.

What perplexes me the most is that each book seems to follow a similar pattern, with a consistent undercurrent of hatred and unresolved mysteries. While it's understandable that the same town and shared past experiences link these stories, the repetition becomes wearisome. The recollections of past events, particularly Somerset's lies, compound the confusion and discomfort.

Perhaps my most significant qualm lies in the glaring absence of communication between Hazard and Somerset. It's not just miscommunication; it's no communication at all. They speak past each other, and it feels like an exercise in frustration.

I'm torn between rating this book. On one hand, the narrative choices and character dynamics feel unreal and infuriating. They left me feeling physically ill and angered. However, on the other hand, the book remains disturbingly bingeable. It compels me to read on, despite my vehement dislike.

Ultimately, I'll settle on a three-star rating. It's a compromise between my disdain for the choices the author has made and the undeniable pull of the series. I've learned little from this book, except that the backhanded conversations and continued lack of open communication are driving me to the brink of frustration.

In the end, I must admit, I hate this book. It's a challenging and unsatisfying journey, but it keeps me hooked, and I can't help but want to know how this tangled web will finally unravel in the next installment.
