oh my god ann rule was so thirsty for ted bundy lol. ann was more focused on describing the local weather and her fat crush on ted than on writing about the victims. they felt like footnotes. i finished it only because i was trapped on a plane. id rather be tarred and feathered in the town square than have to read this absolute travesty ever again

I was curious about the Ted Bundy story and this is pretty much the seminal book about it, and for good reason. I liked that it was not solely about him but also about the victims, their families, law enforcement, the nature of media and personal feelings. I am more into the human aspects of true crime stories and reading this story from someone very close to the situation was very intriguing. I do recommend reading the updated version- Rule does talk about how in the initial book (which came out in 1980) she had used some outdated terminology and some mental diagnoses that were incorrect. I really appreciate that she has talked about the families of victims and her conflicting feelings writing about horrific crimes, and how it's such a frustrating thing in true crime that these women who are no longer with us will forever be known first as Bundy victims and second as themselves and how tragic that is. The book can get dark (obviously) but it's well worth the read.

As a lover of true crime podcast, this was right up my alley… and a very famous book in the community. It was fascinating to hear about Ted Bundy as a person and his crimes from someone who actually knew him. Ann’s accounts are fascinating to intake and it really does illustrate the duality of him.
I may listen to more of Ann Rule’s books, as the amount of detail into the crimes of people committing them. She is a very good crime writer for sure!
