I’ve been meaning to read this book for a while as I have an interesting in true crime and reading about it gives you so much more detail than a TV show can.

It’s fascinating that Ann Rule knew Ted Bundy during the time he was killing and she was writing the reports on it before even coming to the conclusion that this was someone she knew.

That’s how he got the women of course, first because he was “charming” and “attractive”, but also because no one would suspect him because he didn’t fit the description of someone who would do those things.

It’s quite interesting to get an insight on how Ted Bundy’s mind worked, at least from Ann’s perspective. He was quite manipulative and knew how to word things to make himself not look like the bad guy.

We know his “official numbers” are 36 murders, but he did say that if we added one more digit, we’d have the number. So how many exactly? 136, 37, or 360? From the sounds of it, and how similar other murders are that weren’t pinpointed to Ted, I’d say it’s definitely higher than 37.

This book was a really dense read as there’s just so much information. Regardless, I always find reading about serial killers to be intriguing and this was definitely not a let down. Ann did a great job!

Short Review: I have been a long time fan of Ann Rules work and have been meaning to read this one for years (yes, years!). I finally sat down and read it and have to say I really enjoyed it. It's a bit long, some parts a bit more drawn out and boring than others, but and overall fascinating look at one of most prolific serial killers in history. I very much recommend it for anyone who enjoys true crime novels. In fact, I recommend all her books. Her writing style is top notch.

Best true crime fiction I've read.

The different approach from the outside as someone who interacted with the murder was not something I expected. It added a lot of value to the book. I am grateful for the stories of the women, rather than just making them facts in his story. Sometimes, it seemed to carry on a bit, but there was definitely a lot of research and detail put into the book. I agree that there are more victims out there who may never find the release of their stories being told.
