I'll have to do a real review when I'm not crying over Korra and Asami's relationship because they are the sappiest couple ever and I'm a ball of emotions right now.

NGL I'm still squealing over Korra/Asami being canon so most of my time reading this was spent making heart eyes at them when they appeared together. But it was great in every other way too; nice clean art, all the characters I love, and what looks to be a decent story with an engaging villain! Looking forward to the other books.

P.S. Kya can get it.

The plot is fine, but the relationshio between Asami and Korea is where this story shines.

So far so good. It was silly of me to not buy all 3 parts at once as I didn't realise just how short each one was. It would probably have just managed to earn a 5-star if it was a few dozen pages longer as a lot of scenes just didn't get the number of panels/pages they deserved.
(Note: picks up pretty much exactly where the final series of the show ended so only read when you've watched everything)

It was great to see another continuation of the Avatar world in comic form. I enjoyed more beautiful illustrations of the spirit world and seeing the continued journey's of characters who I grew to adore in the animated series.
SpoilerKorra and Asami's relationship is cute and I'm all about seeing more diverse representation in the media. I thought Mako's reaction was underwhelming though. I loved the subtle political references regarding the proper treatment of refugees and how different nations react to same-sex relationships, as well as the President Raiko's similarly self-obsessed and focused on reelection attitude as a current unfortunate world leader.
Two thumbs up to the creators of Avatar for those nods to current politics and making their own created world reflect these issues. The art style was new and not the same as the other Avatar comics, which was certainly something to get used to. I do prefer Studio Gurihiru's art style since they also did the art for the shows and it matches, but there was more delicate shading and muted coloring in this graphic novel that was nice in its own way. As for the plot,
Spoiler the story picks up right after the show ends and it is interesting to see how Republic City and its many different parties like the government, the citizens, the triads, the Air Nomads, and team Avatar all react with the void of stability. There is one character, who upon seeing him drawn in the comics reminded me so strongly of Jet that I had to remind myself that he died a long time ago. Is he a descendant of him?
I look forward to the remaining part of this story arc as it is released and any other Avatar comics that might come my way.
