Incredible novel but incredibly sad. It had me tearing up at the start, middle, and end. I gained an appreciation for Afghanistan, its culture, and the flight of its people.

The Kite Runner is stylistically impeccable. The author clearly knows what he's doing: there's great "irony" as he calls it himself, it conveys a message, everything lines up perfectly, the characters are well though-out, and it makes sense. Somehow, it didn't really make me emotional though, I didn't really care about the characters. I think that's because the characters that are likable are not main characters and we don't get much insight into them, and the characters that are not likable (on purpose) take up most of the screen time.
