Heftig onderwerp dit keer: orgaanhandel, mensenhandel, gedwongen prostitutie. En toch is Helen in staat om me aan het lachen te maken. Knap. Hou van de hoofdpersonen Natascha, Luc en Ava, maar come on...kies nou eens voor elkaar!

This was an amazing read - but fair warning, it's really really dark and and touches on sensitive matters. The crime thriller part of it is a total 5 for me which is why I rated it as a 5 star read.

However, taking the entire series (as in the world and characters) into account, this would probably be a 3.5 for me.

And hear me out, it's not because the other stories were horrible. Gotta give it to Helen, she just delivers amazing page-turning crime thrillers one after another and overall, you just love the characters (not the bast@rd criminals though).

I've never written a review on Goodreads before but I just feel like I need to address this to get it off my chest.

Luc and Ava.

Okay, I love them, I truly love them, for all of their imperfections and friendship. They're both amazing characters.

BUT!!!
Spoiler
I'm really getting tired of the will they or won't they cause we're in book six now and basically they already freaking know they're in love with each other since... the days of yore in the book that I don't even remember because it's like sooooo way back.

What I love about their connection is that they can confide in each other with such ease and maturity and pure honesty, so like them not getting their sh!t together, sitting down and just talking about whatever the hell they talk about just doesn't add up.

Like it literally doesn't make sense that they haven't just figured this out by now.

And coming from someone who has commitment issues and is super dense when it comes to love, at least by this time, I would have either overcame my issues or just completely ended it.

So yeah, I'm just getting a bit tired of it. I really really really really want them together because they are so obviously in love and it's not even one of those clichés where "everybody but they know that they're in love with each other" kind of thing - like they LITERALLY know they're both in love with each other and despite the honesty and maturity of their relationship for someone reason they can't get INTO A RELATIONSHIP like romantic stylez (to quote Jake Peralta).

It's starting to become super unhealthy that it's making you question you should even continue to ship them.

There I got that off my chest.

Definitely my least favourite of the series. I found it far too graphic and very uncomfortable at times. Due to the nature of the crimes the jumps back to the will they won’t they moment’s between the main characters seemed childish and out of place. I was so invested in the main characters throughout the series and during the last few pages felt like I didn’t know them and couldn’t connect to them anymore.
