This would have been a 4 star for me, but come on:
Minor spoiler ahead
French police and Interpol cannot figure it out and DCI Turner googles for two seconds and gets the answer?
By the way, i listened to this as an audiobook and I could listen to the narrator reading the phonebook to me. Robin Laing is excellent at accents, characters, voices, atmosphere without overdoing or overacting. A joy.

Another great addition to her series. I'm loving this series especially when you see things through the killer's POV although in this book we saw it from the captors pov instead. I do wish Ava and Luc get together soon though as that storyline seems to be dragging a bit for me.

Thank you to @netgalley and @avon_books for my ARC of Perfect Kill. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
This is a continuation of the D.I. Callanach series by Helen Fields. I haven’t read any of the previous books in this series but it didn’t affect the storyline or my overall enjoyment of this book.
I found some of the plot lines in this a little to near the knuckle for me. Certain events just left me with a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.
However, the writing is really high quality, fluid and full of variation. It’s an excellent story and very gripping at times, it’s just not for me.
If you like a detective novel with some seriously violent bad guys you’ll enjoy this. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I knew what to expect from a book by Helen Fields, especially one in her D.I. Callanach series. I had read every single one before this and loved them. As usual, Fields did not disappoint with Perfect Kill
Right off the bat this book did have a slightly different vibe than the others in this series. For one, our two favorite characters, Ava and Luc, were investigating crimes in different countries as Luc was in France and Ava was back home in Scotland working with the team. I wasn’t a fan of this vibe because I feel they play well off each other, but I get why Fields may have done it. Loose ends and all that. The story line in Perfect Kill was one of larger scale and almost seemed too big to write at first. I was confused how things were related or not related and a bit confused on what was happening. But Fields quickly started filling in the puzzle pieces and did it smoothly . Not many can write about a criminal act of this magnitude and not fumble some of the details at least once.
Our characters we have grown to love in this series were the same people and the Perfect Kill gave us an even closer look into their back stories, lives, and personalities. I love how each book Fields allows us to learn just a bit more about the character to help us understand why they are the way they are and I love how she just weaves it into her writing so seamlessly.
I’m no expert on the matter, but having read my fair share of Mystery/Thriller/Suspense novels, Fields has definitely carved herself a place at the top of the pack of the best writers in their class. She never fails to surprise us in the end and have me turning the page, ignoring all my life’s requirements just to know what happens next. If you love yourself a good crime novel, pick up Perfect Kill or any of her books in this series. You will love them!

4.5-5*
Luc is in France working with Interpol when the body of a young Scot is found on a building site. Meanwhile Ava has a murder investigation going on in Edinburgh.
Their relationship has taken a nosedive if, indeed, it ever got off the ground. However, their cases are soon to collide and the race is on to find Bart if he’s still alive and to find a witness to yet another murder that takes place in Edinburgh.
On top of everything that’s happening at work. Natasha, Ava’s closest friend and also friends with Luc, makes a devastating revelation.
Helen Fields will have you gripped from start to finish in this complex, dark and tense tale of murder, kidnapping and trafficking. You will race through this very well written book wanting to know what happens. The build up and conclusion to the two police operations which take place one on each side of the Channel will keep you hooked to their conclusion.
Then, just when you take a breath and think that’s it the end, Natasha makes a proposal to Ava and Luc that’ll make for very interesting reading in what will surely be the next in this really good series.
This is the sixth book in the DI Callanach series which just gets better and better. I would highly recommend it.
Thanks

This series gets better and better with each instalment. Brilliant main plot, terrifying in places, sees Ava trying to track down the disappearance of a young man from Edinburgh. Meanwhile Luc is in France back working with Interpol and soon they are again thrown together to solve what goes from a disappearance to a major international case with some cruel and unusual elements. Couple that with excellent developments in the characters and the sub plots and you have hours of fabulous reading

I have not read the previous books in this series. That has made little difference. This has been a great read which has gripped my attention and kept me interested from the start.
The author pulled me in quite quickly and I struggled to put this one down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve seen lots of positive feedback for author Helen Fields’ D.I. Callanach series each named with ‘Perfect’ in its title but unfortunately I haven’t got around to reading any despite owning a couple. After securing an early copy of the highly anticipated sixth in the series - “Perfect Kill” - I jumped at the opportunity to see what all my fellow reviewers were talking about.
Starting exactly how I like stories in this genre to begin with - adrenaline fuelled intrigue and a captivating scenario, I was engrossed and addicted within the first few pages and knew this would be a series I would be going back to follow from the first book. You don’t need to worry about reading any of the first instalments as there plenty of background information to keep you in the loop about the characters, without overwhelming you in facts. Of course having now read this highly entertaining book I would recommend reading from the start purely for enjoyment. “Perfect Kill” has plenty of violence, gore and action to keep the hardiest of readers entertained (myself included) and has numerous subject matters to make the content compelling and original. I liked how the personal and professional areas were well balanced and I truly loved the relationship between Ava and Luc. I could go on and on but suffice to say, this was a five star read for me (I pity the next book I read after this) and without a doubt I will be digging out my copy of “Perfect Remains”, the first book in this superbly written police procedural series and I will be reading it very soon.
