Really reflective book about characters being friends with benefits but ending up wanting more. I liked the way that this was written giving a present day story from Tate’s perspective and giving the back story to Miles. It was emotional going through the story of how to love again.

review Ugly Love

I was critical at the start but the story took all my doubts away.

Short summary

The city of nice apartments, adorable people at the elevator and hot pilots. Very hot pilots. Very kind, warm pilots across the hallway. if you'd ask Tate how San Fransisco is, this is probably the answer she will give you. Tate is a learning nurse but working and studying isn't her main priority anymore. After moving in her brother's (Corbin) apartment, she found out that love is not always the way it is portrait in movies. Miles, the friendly, mysterious neighbor and simultaneously the Corbin's best friend. He had a past which he cannot move on from, however, Tate might be able to make this a lot easier. After all, it is easier to fly than to fall in love.

My thoughts (no detailed spoilers)

Colleen definitely know something about writing. Her use of perspectives and time jumping was quite intriguing, it made you even more excited about the character's story. And oh my lord, the way this romance is written was absolutely amazing. Hearts were broken, mend, shattered and melt together. Though I must say, I missed quite the adventure there wasn't much going on beside Tate and Miles. Which, in this plot, might fit better than others but there certainly was a lack of side plots, however, that might just be my opinion. Same with the ending of the book. I guess it could've been a bit more detailed and slower-paced. Especially since I have acknowledged how Colleen is capable of doing a great job at detailed and precise writing.
therefore, a 4,5 and not a 5 stars read.

It was a fun idea to centre the text vertically, I had never read that in a book before.
I wanted to read some romance, but I’m unsure about this story. Miles gave me some red flags and the chemistry between him and Tate felt weird at times. Also, I didn’t understand why this whole “stepsister” thing needed to happen.
But I liked the writing style and the kind of storytelling that was happening with the chapters and different povs.
Cap as a character was also really funny.

I also thought the end was a bit unrealistic. He had trauma for six years, which he never took care off. And at the end, he suddenly proposes after six months of dating. Yes, stuff like that can happen, but in this case, it felt a bit rushed.

Despite all those things, it was still an enjoyable read and my first read of a Colleen Hoover book.
