First Karin Slaughter read! I was also delighted to discover this was mad into a show on Netflix. I’ll def be reading more of her books. Im interested to see where the second book in this series goes.

This book is pretty violent and descriptive of gory scenes, so if you’re sensitive to topics I don’t suggest reading.

One of the least brutal (?) of the Slaughter's book, but nonetheless intriguing and suspenseful.

The novel goes between Jane and Andrea, who tries to discover her mother's true identity that caused her to go on the run. Andrea's growth was refreshing and cathartic to witness as it comes to light in the climax. And Jane's story intertwines with Andrea's backstory well.

The plot twists were predictable and didn't have the gut punch like Pretty Girls (rip it out of my cold dead hands that this is one of Slaughter's greatest books). However, it was done in a masterful and emotional way that I let it slide.

I was blind sided when Slaughter released a sequel to this novel so NOW I gotta go and read it. But, I am very excited for what she puts next for Andrea.

4 /5 B-

It took me a while to get into it and I thought the first time jump to the past and the Jane/Laura perspective was confusing. I’m glad I kept going though because it was really good and a really solid thriller.

Sometimes Andy was a bit frustrating like I just wanted to shake her and tell her to make better decisions haha but she was still likable. Hated her and Alabama though.

This is the fourth book I’ve read from Karin Slaughter and she still manages to amaze me. The writing, characters, and plot always seem to suck me in. Like I’ve done before  with her other books, I teared up at certain parts. Finding out Laura’s past was rough.

Are Slaughter’s books kinda messed up? Yes, but I keep eating it up. And I’ll continue to do so.

Also fuck Nick and Paula.
