I think it has accidentally become a tradition that my first book of the year is by the Queen of Mystery. Always my go-to author to get out of a reading slump, A.C. had me guessing whodunnit until the last few pages.
.
The book itself follows the tried and true formula of her murder mysteries: a little bit of poison, 3 bodies, and a detective who's just one step behind our favorite consultant (in the case Miss Jane Marple).
.
Miss Marple may be my most favorite armchair sleuth of all time. A perfect way to check off the first book of 2024.

This was my first Marple and it's a bit of an odd one as she's barely in it. That said, when she is around she's a bit smug and annoying, so I was glad Lucy was the main protagonist. The mystery itself is pretty interesting, but the solution does seem a little unfair. I did guess the outcome (which is skewing my opinion of the book slightly more positively) but that came from thinking about what Christie might be up to more than any trail of clues left behind to piece together. There's still plenty of shifty characters to enjoy though, and still a fast, fun read.

This was my 2nd Ms. Marple book, and I think I may have liked it more than the first! Very interesting characters, what you thought you knew was constantly changing, and while Ms. Marple was more in the periphery of the story, she still played an integral part throughout. I also really like Emilia Fox's narration and would recommend on audio.

I listed to the dramatised audiobook and it was simply fantastic. I loved the different choice of voices and the BGM changing to the situation. The audiobook is just 1.5 hours and hence a super quick read.

The audiobook of this is more like a radio play, or like listening to the episode of the BBC Marple without the video. In other words, charming and very British.
