Delivered as a second chance enemies to lovers, but it relies on Omegaverse rules to move the plot along. Didn't feel like a love story. The pack came together because of their biological bond, and the book didn't really delve into them as men or Evie as an independent Omega with passions of her own.

Knot the One They Want does a great job with the “rejected mate” trope. That’s a tricky trope to use because readers have to believe in the rejection but not hate the rejecting character so much that they don’t believe in the redemption. But Harper Lennox pulls it off admirably here.

What makes this work is a clever concept: The Blackwood pack already had an omega who rejected them, and they bear some pretty large scars and sensitivities from that. Evie has been searching for the perfect pack, so much so that she’s beginning to be seen as a problematic omega. So when her family pushes her to join this on-paper outstanding pack, she doesn’t realize what she’s getting into.

What made this book work for me is that almost immediately some members of the pack regret the decision to only partially mate with Evie. That really helped the story move forward, as the four members of the Blackwood depict the gamut of reactions to Evie, from instant regret to adamant hatred. The story hinges on the evolution of all five members of this pack, and Lennox depicts this beautifully.

I did wonder about how rejecting a mate worked, particularly if those involved had already fully bonded. It seemed awfully easy to dismiss and override an existing mating (which made me wonder if it could be done forcibly). I hope Lennox explains this further in future books in this world.

I picked up this book thinking I’d read a chapter or two and then take a break. And the next thing I knew, it was hours later and I was reading “the end.” When a book grabs you that tightly, you’ve got a winner on your hands.

This is Lennox’s first book, so I can’t wait to see what she does next!

This is my first time reading an omegaverse book, so it might be a case where the main trope just wasn't written for my preferences as a reader. I agree with other reviews it seems like the MMCs need therapy and the FMC gives off tradwife vibes.

I enjoyed the first half of the book because there was at least some interest and suspense. I think it would have been even better if it was solely Evie's POV at that point so the reader also doesn't know why the MMCs are acting the way they are, then switch to their POVs for the reveal. I've read reverse harem before, and I think 4 guys is just too many for this book and none of them are properly fleshed out. Lake and Asher can pretty much just be one guy, and Cole seems superfluous, so then we're down to 2. They really don't have any personality besides their career/hobby. I know this is nitpicking, but I thought it was funny they all wore different colored suits to the mating ceremony....like, that would actually look really weird?? And Damien in his black suit like a waiter/undertaker no less.

Like others have reviewed, the second half rushes through events, but it also felt so tedious and silly because everything is pretty much resolved with almost no issues. It would have been nice if Evie struggled with literally anything, versus saying and doing exactly the right thing at all times in every context once she feels better. There could have been more family drama, like her parents deciding they want to take her to leave the pack and get bound to another alpha for their own gains and her going along with it due to some high stakes reason, etc. Instead....nothing really happens.

I wish Daria wasn't the ultimate "not like other girls" annoying trope. She could have also been a really interesting character and sequel rather than a stereotype. It would be really interesting if she had a valid reason for leaving and really struggled with her omega role in comparison to Evie just liking and enjoying everything.

Overall though I mostly liked Evie, especially for the first half, and I do like the premise of the book overall. I think the character development and reliance on tropes/stereotypes is the biggest flaw.

Damien annoyed me. Evie was stronger than people gave her credit for but I wish there would’ve been a bit more for her backstory.
