This book had everything I need in a contemporary romance: a hero who’s unproblematic, a heroine who’s quirky, a plot that I haven’t read before (obviously still follows the traditional romance flow), tension, positive female relationships and, of course, dismantling stigmas surrounding women’s pleasure and the adult film industry. Rosie Danan does an excellent job of exploring the depths of adult entertainment in a tactful and nuanced way.

This was a one-sitting read for me. I devoured this book. I loved the characters and the banter between them was so good. This book is steamy, like really steamy. A good friend of mine once said “steam in a book, is like butter on toast.” I personally need all the steam and if you do too, this book is for you!

4.5 stars!

Pros:
  • An easy, short read/listen
  • Interesting/unique setup

Cons:
  • The build up between Clara and Josh felt fast/forced
  • Side plots were a bit much
  • I think it's possible that women-writing-men can be as egregious as men-writing-women

I went into this book not knowing anything about it and I was hooked from the beginning. I thought the premise was great and Josh was such a goofy loveable mc. I ended up having some trouble with Clara. She really was stuck in her own negative self-worth for a while but when it finally passed I just loved these two. The ending was so fast I would have loved an epilogue but I’m hoping we get to see more of them in Naomi’s book

overall a pretty solid and enjoyable read

plot was averagely developed, characters had good growth, and tension was thick (had me giggling and kicking my feet at some points). what made the plot special was the message of the book - women's experience with sex, intimacy, and insecurities. i related heavily with some of the topics of insecurities of allowing your body to be vulnerable in front of someone. it's like i was reading someone else going through the same experiences as me which was really reassuring and beautiful. it was also a real confidence booster to read such a powerful & independent female lead whose not afraid to take control of her own pleasure and show that it's not just the men that get something out of sex and women don't.

although rosie danan's work didn't really stand out all that much to me, i really enjoyed the topics she brought up in this story.

Sweet and frothy and credibility-stretching. Firmly in the escapist reading category. And way steamier than our neighborhood book club realized.
