It's been a long time since I've read this, but I remember loving it. No idea where my copy is. Think I lent it out and it never came back.

Laura Hillenbrand is a rare author with the ability to pull you into her gripping story and hold onto your curiosity while subtly teaching you something about its historical context. I had little interest in horse racing before I stumbled across this non-fiction legend in a book exchange shop on a beach in India. Now I have a sincere appreciation for a new sport and a pivotal era in American history.
This story is so well-crafted and the characters are so outstanding it makes me want to follow horse racing. Not something I ever expected to be interested in! I missed the boat when the rest of the country read this book and watched the movie several years ago, but I'm glad I found it now.
Not sure I could have got through this if it had not been for listening to the audio book. I am SO glad I did. It is an amazing tale of a history I was not even aware existed. Highly recommend.
