This is a fun little mystery. It is very YA in a way that I would have loved at 16 but a decade later makes me want to scream "talk to a trusted adult." I think it is an engaging story with lots of twists and turns. Curious why it is a series.

This book didn't quite meet my expectations, but it was pretty good. The mystery aspect was done very well, and I liked some of the characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a mystery-crime read.

I finished this book in less than a day. I’ve been in a reading slump for a while, and this is the first one I’ve picked up in a long time that I absolutely could not put down. The characaters were realistic and lovable and so easy to empathize with that it feels like you’re really stepping into the story and unraveling the mystery alongside them. I kept going back and rereading clues throughout the book to try and figure out the plot twist, but I still hadn’t guessed it by the end. The book handles sensitive themes in a way that both shows respect to victims and uses them as a major plot point to draw the readers in. I absolutely can’t wait to read the sequel.

I debated between 2 and 3 stars because the plot was interesting, but I really disliked the writing. However it's a YA book, and I know 15 year old me would have LOVED it, it's just not one of those YA books that seems to hold up as you get older. The dialogue was corny and seemed forced, the million and five nicknames for Pip was cringe, but again, this book wasn't marketed towards my age group and I get that, so I'm trying to be a bit more generous in my rating.
