It's the first book in the trilogy and I really liked it. Even though I found out the killer before hand, still the book was great. I would highly recommend!

The things I liked:
  • characters, I think they were well build and their actions were realistic. Ravi is such a cool guy and all of friend of Pipp. I quess the two guys friend were kind of useless but I don't mind it honestly.
  • humor, I can't pinpoint exact moment or jokes but just in general there were a lot of good jokes mainly between dad and Pipp and Ravi and Pipp. I chucked a couples of times for real.
  • writing, it was good, easy to understand so that's appreciated.
So basically I was really invested in story, I liked the characters and I liked the story.
The only reason why it wasn't a 5 star read is because of the ending, AND DON'T GET ME WRONG I ACTUALLY KINDA LIKE IT BUT,
I think the tempo got too fast at the end. It really felt like the characters were going in circles and Max being the main suspect but then suddenly I'm reading Edwin (this was his name right? Sorry I'm really bad at remembering names) telling the story of his live and how he kidnapped the wrong girl and stuff, and then all the stuff with Bekka. It's hard to remember exactly how Pippa figured it out because it went so quickly. And the whole presentation after was kinda to long for me but that's just me nitpicking.
The thing I'm wondering is what do you think about Ravi and Pippa being together, I mean clearly that was the goal because they been practically flirting all the time (which was cute) bit I was honestly not expecting them to be official in this book I thought it's gonna be on the next book. I can't wait to start the second part!

Notes:
- white savior up the wazoo. Are we not going to talk about racial profiling? No intersectional understanding of issues? No?
- slapstick diversity
- ring? Fancy? (Edit: my wife told me the author is from the UK which explains SO MUCH ffs)
- mc is an idiot masquerading as a Ivy League bound high schooler
- what high schooler is doing a CAPSTONE?
- what high schooler has time to do all the bananas sh*t unquestioned?
- HOW did the MC not end up dead with the batsh*t decisions to confront suspects ALONE
- Ethics is calling and they’d like to speak to the MC
-
loses a whole star for the dog dying. Absolutely unnecessary

-
so many things that needed an adult or authority intervention. Date r*pe? Drugs? Teachers getting involved with students? I mean are you serious? I know I’m old but I’m not THAT old

TL;DR: it was a quick, formulaic book with poor character development, questionable motives, and a heaping scoop of racial insensitivity.
