This was such a great find. I have to admit I was attracted to this book by the cover while at the library with my kids. An Yu has a style of writing that is so peaceful and calming. I found this a very soothing read. I also greatly enjoyed the mixture of classical music and mushroom influences on the character.

Strange and eerie with domesticity added into the mix… the prose has a lulling, quieting quality to it that can transport one to a surreal trance like dream

quite liked the writing, but there is zeeeerrroooo plot whatsoever. it’s pretty much just a bunch of little stories/things that happen in someone’s life that just sort of trickle away throughout the book?
i didn’t hate reading it ; it was quite enjoyable actually haha! a sort of mindless read, not in a bad way! and i don’t mind books having no plot sometimes, as long as there are other aspects of the book that are there to balance that out. (such as interesting characters or settings etc etc)
but there are quite a few things missing here, which i think could’ve made the book more substantial (?), such as definitely going more in depth with the mushrooms like???? helloooo??? would’ve loved to see more of those guys.
(i’m also in LOVE with the cover, so that sort of makes up for it haha)
