Preferred the holiday/sea setting to this book over the first in the series. The setting was fantastic but the plot maybe a little less memorable. I enjoyed it, and like the first, it was a quick, fast-paced read for me which was nice and exactly what I needed. The new gadgets Ruby got to use (by immoral methods) were cool and her meeting with the Count was fun to read about (but not that logical really - I mean she actively sought him out by herself).
Oh my god - Ruby's excessive stealing of these gadgets! She just doesn't stop, does she. Maybe it didn't help reading the first two books back to back but honestly, it was so dishonest and lazy of her - she herself admitted that she could fill out a form to borrow some of these gadgets but just couldn't be bothered and complained about it taking too long. I mean, really? I think that the repetitive nature of how Ruby acts is honestly becoming a little obnoxious, rude and privileged for my liking. I think reading about the way she treats others more and more is constantly starting to get on my nerves.
Just another quip but - one of the problems I have with these books is how normalised Ruby’s lavish, rich lifestyle is - I know it adds to the story and is honestly a nice escape to imagine yourself in her shoes for a change but it isn’t particularly relatable, but regardless it does feel like the book tries to normalise it.
