I think that my expectations were a bit too high for this book. I wanted it to be more than it was/more impactful for me personally. However, I do think there were valuable qualities this book possessed.
It was a very comforting book that spoke with kindness and gentleness. The author clearly is an extremely empathetic person. There were various quotes in this collection that I thought were insightful.
My three star rating can be attributed to a few main things. First, the collection seemed pretty repetitive. I think there were a few poems that were shared at least 2-3 times in the collection. Even if the poems weren’t an exact copy; many seemed very similar. It felt like I read a variation of the same poem often in this collection.
I do think that the author was sensitive for the most part in this collection. However, there was one message that disturbed me a bit. The collection seemed to emphasize the idea that life is so short. There was a line that made me feel pretty uneasy, that essentially said that your next breath could lead to death. The following line said that this wasn’t said in an effort to scare readers, but it still made me uneasy. As someone is that suffers from PTSD, it felt a bit upsetting for my specific trauma. However I do think that other survivors of trauma may view this collection differently.
I think this collection could resonate more with many readers. It has incredible potential to pull individuals through extremely dark times.
