I really enjoyed the first book in this series so was really looking forward to this one. You really can't beat a well written, pirate rebellion tale with great romance on the side! Unfortunately I just didn't enjoy this book as much. The first half particularly I found very slow and it lacked the authors usual fun and brilliant character writing. The second half definitely picked up, and I do love Lizzie as a character!

I feel the same for Blood on the Tide as I did for Hunt on Dark Waters, and since the series did not improve for me, that leaves me feeling a little bit disappointed. The premise of this world intrigued me so much with different portals, a plethora of creatures, and the overarching antagonist. However, the individual books fall short on that premise for me, because I haven’t fallen in love with any of the characters and therefore, I’m not invested in their personal journeys. I did appreciate how one of the FMC is a shapeshifter in this book, and not the shapeshifter that you might expect. I also love that this is a queernormative fantasy world, because those are most comforting to me. I’ve borrowed each installment of the series so far from my library, and that’s the route I’m going to continue to take if I do decide to pick up the third book when it comes out. I enjoy the story, but I don’t love it as much as I had hoped I would.

I love katee robert and I love a good Sapphic romance but the ending made the book feel like a bridge to the upcoming 3rd. Lizzie giving her blood to save Maeve at the end felt like it was going to be really significant but it didn't pan out. Love that they're two long living creatures who found each other.
easy, fun read, this little series on sea has been a good time so far
i got to listen to this book on audio (thank you PRH for the ALC) sadly i did only enjoy one of the narrators and i feel like that did affect my overall feelings towards the book, definitely would be willing to give this a reread in the future
