This book is troubling, weird, and most emphatically gives the wrong lessons. Won't read to our little one again.

This is a cute title that I enjoyed as a child. I was glad to read it again as an adult and I can understand why it's a classic, but I don't know that it's one that I would need to read over and over again nowadays. I think it works well for the younger audience, but it is also a book that has lasted so long due to nostalgia (adults choosing the book for the child instead of the child choosing the book). It's a little too long to be a read-aloud, and there's not much of an ending.
For: puppy and dog fans; readers wanting a book that stresses the importance of listening to one's parents.
Possible red flags: some readers may find it too long or anti-climactic.

This is a classic story, but I find the book almost long-winded with its repetitiveness. It is still cute though.

My mom used to read me this story when I was little; nothing but fond memories and warm fuzzy feelings :-)
