It's honestly a really good read, fast-paced and it has some nice plot twists. The only downside is the ending, it was a bit flat and I expected it.

This was the first Katzenbach book I read and it was really good. I never heard of this author prior reading this novel but it was a birthday present and the premise looked really interesting: a psychopath who calls himself Rumpelstiltskin, threats doctor Frederick Starks saying that he has to figure out his identity in 15 days or he will kill somebody from the doctor's family. The only way to stop Rumpelstiltskin from killing is to win the game or that the doctor commits suicide.
It was a great read. The book is fast paced with lots of mysteries and nice plot twists that kept me reading non stop, towards the half it slows down a little bit but luckily Katzenbach quickly picks up the frantic rhythm of the first chapters reaching a very good ending.
Even though I sort of figured out who Rumpelstiltskin was before finishing, it didn't stopped me from enjoying this book because what really interested me was to know if the doctor could survive this wicked game.
Another thing I really liked is how the author describes the psyche of the different characters and the deeper implications of the game planned by Rumpelstiltskin, also the villain was great because of his determination to destroy doctor Starks's life.
With this kind of books I always have the concern that the ending can be stupid or far fetched, fortunately this wasn't the case. Without being a mind-blowing ending (at least for me) I found it to be satisfactory and it wrapped up the book perfectly.
So, if you're looking for a fast and exciting psychological thriller this book can be good for you. I breezed through the second half desperate to know how the story would end and it didn't disappoint me. I'll definitely read more books by this author in the future.

Este libro ha sido una pequeña-gran decepción. Me habían hablado muy bien de él, pero para mí la lectura ha sido un suplicio, un camino con muchos obstáculos.
El primer obstáculo (y el más importante) es que el protagonista me ha caído mal (a ratos muy muy mal). Vale, que recibir una misiva en la que un loco te dice que en 15 días vas a morir y que si juegas a un juego puedes averiguar quién es el y por qué te hace esto no es divertido. Era muy quejica para mi gusto.
El segundo problema es que aunque la parte de investigar quién es el loco que le ha amenazado es interesante, el principio ha sido muuuy lento y el final muy atropellado. Ni tanto, ni tan poco.
Tercero, a partir de cierto momento en el libro, el protagonista tiene un cambio de personalidad que parece venido de la nada. Pasa de ser un koitado a ser un experto del FBI. Qué queréis que os diga, a mi me cuesta creerlo.
En definitiva, si queréis leer un libro de asesinatos/amenazas/investigaciones... leed los de Stieg Larsson, que me gustaron más.

El titulo no nos dice mucho, pues hace referencia a una especialidad de una profesión, lo que a primera impresión no es del todo atrayente, sin darnos mayores datos sobre el desarrollo de la lectura.
La sinopsis es una clara invitación a la lectura poniendo en contexto el tipo de lectura que encontraremos, y parte del nudo sobre el que se desarrollara la historia, tiene la virtud de no contarte demasiado, dejándote con la intriga del desenlace.
El libro esta organizado de manera cronológica, es un relato claro que nos permite quedar atrapados desde la primera hoja.

First time reading a thriller. Thought it wasn't for me at first, but once I reached the second part of the book I just couldn't put it down.
The book is divided in three parts. If anyone, like me, finds the first part somewhat slow-paced or even dull, I advice you to keep forward until you've read at least the first five pages of the second part. You'll be hooked.

Primera mitad interesante, segunda mitad decepcionante ... SPOILERS ... lo que arruinó el libro para mí es que en la primera mitad los villanos aparecen muy poderosos, omnipresentes e inteligentes, y en la segunda mitad los cambian por gente común, bajo sueldo, fácil de atrapar y más fácil de subyugar ... el autor se engolosinó tanto con el concepto original que después ya no supo cómo poner a los villanos al alcance de su héroe.
Al empezar la historia parece ser muy atrapante, pero al avanzar, la misma se fue volviendo bastante predecible. Es un libro que me gustó, me entretuvo, pero no me maravilló como dijeron quienes me lo recomendaron. Es una buena lectura, pero creo que tenía muchas expectativas y al final me dejó con sabor a poco; sí rescato que es una narración fácil de llevar y de rápida lectura.
