Really did not see the twist at the end coming. Please tell me there's another hook!

3.5. I enjoy these characters and this story, but this was just so long. Could’ve used a tighter edit. I’ll definitely read the next one! Ending was great.

The pacing felt off. The long time span at the beginning of the book then followed by a lot of stuff happening in three days was kinda strange. I also don't know how I feel about the reveal at the end of the book, I might have to go back and look at whether it was hinted at or not because it felt like deus ex machina.

Best book I’ve read this year!

I am so bummed that I didn't love this book...

Legendborn and Bloodmarked both had such a confidence and surety to them, whereas I could feel Tracy Deonn trying to figure out what to do In the writing of this book. Oathbound mostly felt like 600 pages of exposition.
  • The POV structure really fell flat, as it was completely abandoned about a third of the way through the book, with most those characters just telling us what they did for the most of the story when they all meet up at end
  • There were a few places of world building inconsistencies (e.g., Zoe says that demons can’t mesmer but there are TWO separate parts that mention both Erebus and Mikael mesmering…)
  • The character relationships and dynamics are such a highlight of these books and the erasing of Bree's memories cut all of that off. For me, it ended up largely feeling like a plot device to re-introduce and allow Nick to catch up as a love interest.

All of the incredible moments that Deonn brings into this book - Bree's moments with her dad, now that he finally knows everything; the knights of the roundtable showing real allyship for Bree as a black woman in her absence; that ENDING - felt overshadowed by other elements that felt so scattered. I'm still going to read the next book, but I hope that the last installment as the same knockout energy as the first two did.
