It is quite slow paced in the first half and speeds considerably after - still a slow moving story (not necessarily a bad thing). The connection with the characters also only happened on the later stages. Struggled with the beginning of the book but it go considerably more enjoyable and eventually got to the point that you get so involved you just don't want to put the book down. Oddly enough it was the day after finishing the book that improved my opinion significantly - I did read the second half in one sitting, so that's probably why. Definitely changed my mind about the book which ended up capturing my attention and will certainly read the rest of the trilogy.

One of the better dystopian/apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic books I've read. Yes, it is all 3. The book starts out with a character who is the last human on earth but was at the center of how things ended. The story of the dystopian world he lived in and how the end came about in is told in flashbacks. Ending is a cliff hanger so thankfully I read this after the trilogy was complete!
