This book is a pretty dark Hades and Persephone style story, so sign me up.
I was surprised at how much I liked it! (What's wrong with me..lol)
The writing style was nice to read, the plot was alight and had me gasping a couple of times (check TW). I mean..a dark mafia romance, close proximity, protective anti-hero, a small age-gap and danger: yes please.

But please, skip the epilogue. It kind of ruins the last chapter if you ask me.

Was this a fanfic Kal wrote about him being Hades and marrying the daughter of his overlord and corrupting her to make her his Persephone? Possibly. Was there a plot or point to this story other than bleeding and breeding? Yes, duh. There was some poetry so clearly that makes it ✨romantic✨

I almost DNF this book but I pushed through it hoping it would get better, hoping that there would actually be some sort of interesting plot... but no.

Finished only cause I hate not finishing

This book could completely be your thing! For me it wasn't. It boils down to using an 18 year old girl, a child. There isn't anything sexy about 18 year Olds or wring them mature cause they aren't. I wish books would put disclaimers about certain things in books like this.

UPDATE:

I reread Promises and Pomegranates now that the entire Monsters & Muses series is up on KU. I wanted to continue the series & felt like I needed to reread the first one. I am so glad I did. I think I loved this one more the second time around.

Sometimes I think GR readers need to loosen up a bit. Sure, it has its issues, like a weak plot line and a little awkwardness with the pregnancy epilogue (imo), but who cares. LBR, you are not reading this series expecting a great plot or even great writing. And if you are, you have been heavily misled. This is a trashy dark romance that is fun and spicy and that’s all it needs to be.

After reading three of the Monsters and Muses books, I still think that Kallum is my favorite MMC. There’s something about Kal as Dr. Death, being the personification of Hades… I don’t know. It just feels right. It’s also more up my alley than the rest. IYKYK

I do plan on reading the prequel as well.
