I have to sit with this one for a bit, I think. There were parts of it that I really liked. I liked the writing of Kate/Cathy. I thought she had a surprising amount of depth for a writer that doesn't typically write women. She was complex and interesting. And I liked Cal and Abra. There was a lot there I just feel like I'm struggling to see the whole picture. I'll sit with it for a bit. I did enjoy it though. There was a lot about it I enjoyed.

My first 5-star in a while!

Wow, this was wonderful. I can understand why [a:Steinbeck|585|John Steinbeck|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1182118389p2/585.jpg] considered this his greatest work; the universe he created is incredibly rich and lush with color. His characters are imperfect and gorgeously drawn. In particular, Lee and Cal will stay in my heart for a long, long time. What an amazing book.

I’m giving this book a 3 because it is long and arduous and even tedious. But that being said, it crushed me and imparted a life lesson on me that is both torturous and, in another light, hopeful.

A beautiful book that resonates with anyone who thinks critically about life and the choices that we make.
