I've always had a soft spot for this story. The "real" version is much longer than the Great Illustrated Classics book I read as a kid, but the story was the same, and still good. It dragged at times, but I enjoyed it all the same.
I'll categorize this book as a must-read for dog-lovers, because of the love and devotion portrayed between White Fang and the Love Master. I wouldn't say there's any particular educational value to it, though. A lot of the book's elements (particularly from White Fang's perspective) are surmise only.
4 out of 5 for good story, but ragged pacing.

I loved the ending, but that doesn’t excuse the racism and white supremacism. Parts of the prose were repetitive.
