I found this story to be more in the style of memoir than story, as it focused on incidents and relationships through the life of Marianne, and not solely on the 'hero'. This isn't normally a format that I'm a fan of and I initially didn't think that I'd like this book. Overall though, it was a good read showing that each relationship built upon the previous, thereby bringing Marianne to the point that she reached with her final Master.
