I'm gradually adding books I've read in 2021 to give a true reflection of the books I've read since keeping records.  In January 2021, I kick-started my reading journey having put reading on the  back burner whilst bringing up the children only reading when on holiday, having previously being an avid reader. A difficult disturbing read, dark, twisty and uncomfortable. Made me think but not in a good way. Its a  disturbing stalker and obsession based read.  Uncomfortable but well written

CHILLING........

so i bought this because i loved the show, and everyone told me 'joe is so much darker in the book!' and i was like okay ill bite

i don't think joe is like super darker in this, but because we are limited to his inner dialogue in the show, we miss out on some of the crazy creepy stuff he thinks about. plus, the show made a lot of changes to the plot. like the paco plot doesn't exist in the books, and yk in the show ur like 'oh he a terrible guy but at least he's helping paco' well you cant say that in the book..

this book was actually scary, not cuz of some monster or vampire yk but because this could happen to anyone irl! plenty of people don't figure out their being stalked for years.. joes narrating was so crazy to me, like people actually think this shit. he's super perverted and he's great at gaslighting and manipulating!

anyway super good book, very disturbing, anddddd id say 13+. if your mature. there's a bunch of perverted stuff and sex scenes, as well as detailing of murder and stalking (obviously)

A bit different than the Netflix show. Not as good in my opinion. Glanced over a lot of crucial moments. Also a lot more sexually driven than the show which at times was a bit much.

I CRIED finishing this book. Beck didn’t deserve any of this. Maybe she wasn’t the greatest person, but she was 24 and was murdered by a man she knew for ~8 months. You can really tell just how little women really mean to Joe. He may talk about Beck in a loving way (sometimes) but 99% of it is about her body or some fantastical idea he has of her. And Karen Minty! I enjoyed her part in the book a lot, there wasn’t much of her in the show and in the short time she appeared, I really loved her. Glad she escaped.
Joe is very good at making everyone seem terrible and worse than he is. While reading, I forget that he isn’t a reliable narrator. God, I HATED Peach in the book. Poor Beck, I feel like she just got extremely unlucky with the type of people she attracted.
This book made me hate Joe a lot more. He thinks he owns Beck, that he’s entitled to her, and when she fights back, he kills her. Then has the sheer audacity to mourn the fact that they’ll never have a life together? What the fuck. What irks me is that if Joe just asked her out normally like any other fucking person, they probably could’ve had a good relationship.
I also still don’t know what solipsistic means.

Loved how scary Joe is written, truly explores obsession and stalking and the mind of a man that wants to destroy a woman, whether intentional or not. The book is absolutely better.
