An easy read. Bit dithery in parts but overall a good mystery.

I had a hard time finding a book of fiction which could entertain me. With this one I was immediately captured by the story, and the Victorian setting was just brilliant. I am not sure if I'll read the other books from the series, but I know that, if you are looking for a pleasant distraction, this book is going to be the perfect catch.

not the best I've ever read, a lot of redundant information spewed into the story which caused annoyance & boredom.

Interesting idea of a detective who, after an accident, can't remember even his own name. He nonetheless manages to solve the mystery with the help of a few others. There's a lot we don't learn about his past but the next books in the series should reveal that. The author is a bit heavy-handed in her portrayal of the upper class disdain for policemen and I wish she would delete the word "impertinent" from her vocabulary.

3.5 - 4 stars. A couple of friends expressed surprise that I had never read an Anne Perry book, so last time I was in the library I got one. Historical fiction combined with mystery. A fun read. I would add another Anne Perry mystery into my rotation when I'm in the mood for a who-dun-it. My only criticism was I felt it ended too abruptly. I wanted an epilogue or something to tie up the some of loose ends.
