“We asked for so much, didn’t we? We wanted to touch the stars, and look what we did.” TJR once again creates a brilliant universe, this time focused on the universe—space—the stars, the moon, and how orbital love is. Maybe we are minuscule in the scheme of the stars but that doesn’t make us small in the things we do, our actions, words, and intentions. She writes once again beautifully of the complexity of womanhood. Every calculated movement of a woman seeking success, previously in Evelyn Hugo among starhood, and now in Atmosphere among the stars in space themselves.

5 ⭐️ TJR is such a versatile writer and great storyteller. I cannot fathom the amount of research that she must have put in to create this novel. I LOVED that this story largely centered around strong, smart FMCs. It was a delight to read and the last 1/3 had me in tears (x3) and on the edge of my seat. This is a strong contender for best book of 2025 for me.

“Happiness is to hard to come by. I don’t understand why anyone would begrudge anyone else for managing to find some of it.”

This book had me on the bathroom floor balling my eyes out questioning“why am I still reading this?”. Only to give it to my husband & tell him he needs to read it

Me while reading this book:
- “Beautifully written, 5 stars”
- Loving the sapphic rep
- Loving the nerdy parts incorporating the stars and space
- Loving the side characters
- “Why is TJR doing this to the characters? Why is she doing this to me?!”
- “This isn’t fair! They’ve been through enough, she can’t do this” *sobs*

Other things to know:
• Non-linear timeline
• Multiple POV
• Sapphic love story
• Astronauts/Space
• Toxic family relationships
• Tissues may be needed for the last chapter

“Bravery is being unafraid of something other people are afraid of. Courage is being afraid, but strong enough to do it anyway.”

Taylor Jenkins Reid did it again, she truly knows how to leave me staring at the wall in awe of her art, and how her words make me feel; she has a magical way of making each story, and each character, relatable and human in their own way.

I have always loved TJR’s writing style, and the carefully crafted and well developed characters she creates, but Joan Goodwin? Absolutely outstanding, her development on both personal level as on professional level was incredible! I loved the dynamic she had with everything, and especially with Vanessa and Frances— and the bond between the three of them was such an incredible subplot, that I loved reading about.

I have always loved anything related to space, so I was excited to see how TJR would capture this, and it was done so greatly! I loved the time jumps throughout this story, and getting to see each characters passion for their career throughout those different years, it was so captivating. Overall, I just loved it dearly; I genuinely believe Taylor Jenkins Reid can write anything, and I’d love it, I would definitely recommend this book

I love space lesbians

This is TJR’s best work yet (and that is saying something!). Vibes are very Lessons in Chemistry meets The Martian. Joan is a new favourite character of mine, I love the way she views the world with such wonder, and tries to treat people with kindness and understanding even when they don’t necessarily deserve it. Her love story with Vanessa (against the sinister backdrop of period-typical homophobia) is just beautiful. The writing is philosophical and introspective, with musings on our place in the cosmos and the hard-fought battle for gender equality in STEM. The dual timeline storytelling is done so well that it’s almost cruel that we’re forced to mourn certain characters before we fully get to know them. The stakes are high and I cried at several scenes. *chef’s kiss* Just fantastic.
