i don’t think i will get over how phenomenal this was. so incredibly researched and brilliantly walked the line between critiquing the sackler family and simply just stating the facts

Wow, this was awful. I mean, the book is amazing - meticulously researched, well-written and compelling but this goddamn family is as morally bankrupt as they are wealthy. But they aren't the only horrible people in this book. There are corrupt lawyers, doctors, the FDA, judges, and the salespeople at Purdue Pharma who acted as drug pushers and were handsomely rewarded for their efforts. Still, it is the Sackler family that was and is directly responsible for the opiate epidemic and this book is about them and their ruthless, greedy, dishonest rise to the top.

Highly recommend.

(Audiobook) I’ve watched the shows but it was interesting to get all the different family stories prior to what we know them for

I typically struggle with long audio books and I find myself getting bored, but with this I could not put it down. I was so invested in hearing all the shady business practices. The accountant on payroll, the tax write offs from donations and the amount of involvement behind the scenes. As a business nerd, I was so fascinated. I was almost disappointed when the 18hr audiobook was done.
