This is one of my favourite books and this is my third re-read. I listened to the audiobook which is so well done and I found it just as gripping as reading it on paper. The world building is fascinating, I love the characters and the plot is so much fun. I've only read the sequel once but I also loved it so I'm making that my next audiobook.

The premise of the book was interesting, but the writing style really got in the way of my enjoyment of this book.

I'll go ahead and say I did not like the main character all that much for a little while, but her arc is so human and realistic (even with the unreal circumstances).

I was suggested this book from a tik tok user sharing that this is the book they read to get out of a reading slump!

That alone was enough to encourage me to give it a go, and I could not put this down! It is an gorgeous demonstration as to how millennial/gen z are expected to be terminally online and connected. Not in a negative way, but more so the way our society has evolved to intrench social media so thoroughly in our lives.

Whilst not every person is going to connect with the experience of fame, but I think I speaks to the ways in which we measure ourselves and grow to figure out what our life is and what we want it to be.

I cannot wait to read the next book!

Listen. I’d give this book 5 stars for keeping me so on edge that I literally only stopped reading it when I had to do my actual job, and because as a human, I unfortunately also need to sleep. I started reading as soon as I woke up, and as soon as I closed my laptop after work. I tripped in the middle of the street while I was reading this. I read this while a lady on the bus was trying to commend me for reading a book. I canceled plans so I could keep reading. This book is not good for your health. Mainly because it ends on the steepest cliffhanger of all time and I’m incredibly upset about it.

So why not 5 stars, then? Well, as alluring as every single page of this book was, it was still written by a dude. There’s nothing wrong with being a dude, but there is something wrong with dude authors who are, for some reason, incapable of writing about women without mentioning their chests multiple times, incredibly unnecessarily. And I’m bothered by the general male pedanticness that consistently roots its way into their books when no one has asked for it. And that obnoxious pattern is the reason why I tend to avoid male authors.

But! The insanity of this cliffhanger makes me immediately want to read the second book, which, as I just learned, exists. To the library!

This was spectacular! Want a genre-bending sci-fi with an unlikeable protagonist that makes you question society? Well, this book is for you! April May (dumb name tbh) was one of the most obnoxious main characters I've ever read about but damn did I love this book.  The whole plot was so confusing and twisty but I walked away from this story feeling seriously reflective about how much weight we put on the opinion of celebrities and things said on social media. Very interesting book!
