This is a fantastic debut novel. I like this book way too much for my own good. I find the candid, self-aware narration style to be just my kind of thing, and a great way to approach writing your first book, especially when you're an older adult writing younger adults who are making blatant mistakes. It also fits really well with the plot/narrative context of the novel. Hank Green, you have impressed me, thrilled me, and I cannot wait to read the sequel.
**I have tagged this with two violence content warnings, but I want to note that they are noted in the book when to skip. I did not skip, knowing I am sensitive to these things. I found them graphic, but because they are announced and readers have the option to ship, I would really, really recommend that people sensitive to gore or body horror read, if they find themselves interested. I don't think it takes away from the book in a significant enough way. Green knew exactly what was necessary, and what was not.

Gave me nostalgia for adventure books from elementary school while incorporating adult themes and characters. Good laughs, also love the underlying message and the robot imagery is fun & fresh!

Unfortunately, this book is essentially 90% exposition/set-up with little to no reward. That is all saved for the sequel. I really enjoyed the second book and together they are strong so I'm rating with that in mind, but stand-alone this book would get a 2.5.

This book is phenomenal.  It is uproariously funny, incredibly insightful, and the sort of immersive, engaging story you won't be able to put down.  I cannot recommend it highly enough.

THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE TO READ

Whomst,,, who gives him the right to break my heart like that. What a fucking rennaissance man Hank Green is. Just read it. Seriously.

I could not put this book down. It's so fast-paced I couldn't even tell it takes place over a year. I love stories that dive into humanity and look at it like the glorious thing that it is. AAA idk how to write a book review but just,, 5,000,000,000/5 stars
