you talk so splendidly but can you not?
NAstenka was so relatable and so delulu at times, there were some very long descriptions that I just skipped. Over all it was really beautifully written and the mood was so intense and felt so real, as it I was sitting on that chair with them. It was my first Dostoevsky book, and Now I wanna freshen up my Russian and read more books from him

Love – unrequited. Hope. Yearning. Solitude filled with melancholy during white nights and lonely days.

It was all great, but mannerism somehow ruined it (a bit) for me. Also, as I reflect about the book after reading it, I think I would have appreciated it more in my late teens/early 20’s than I do now.

Iets te melodramatisch voor mij, maar goed geschreven kort verhaal over een (eerste) liefde.

I love so many things about this book. The way it’s written  being the thing I love the most. Dostoyevsky’s writing is so viscerally moving that I can’t imagine anyone else being able to write such a simple story in such a gut wrenching way. The ending felt in a way tragic - he loved her so much that he just wanted her to be happy even if it was at the expense of his own - yet tied up the novel perfectly. The last line ‘My God! A whole minute of bliss! Is that really so little for the whole of a man’s life?’ Is one of those lines that I don’t think I’ll be able to forget.
