I was very disappointed by this book - maybe because I liked Oona Out of Order and In Five Years so much, this one just missed the mark.

Probably a 3.5!
This was such a sad book. The sh*t kept piling on for Lydia and it was hard to keep reading. The ending chapter was the silver lining to her life. How depressing.
I thought the premise was interesting. Lydia uses medication to continue seeing her dead fiance of 10 years. However, I felt the more she went to this alternate universe, the more I didnt like Freddie and I was glad she didn't end up with him.
I also didn't care for how her family treated her when she went to Croatia. I understand her sister had a baby, but no one acknowledged the fact that that was supposed to be her wedding day and she was still grieving.

Absolutely adored this book and think about it often after finishing it. The writing, the characters, and Lydia's candid thoughts were perfection. Laughed, cried, and mourned with Lydia, but also rediscovered hope and love with her. Such a realistic depiction of grief and tragedy and moving on. There were times the pace was a little slow, but I think it reflected how grief works and the day by day nature of it.
I've never loved characters more than I loved Lydia, Freddie, and Jonah. Also, the concept of how things could have played out if one thing didn't happen was so well done and the idea of having to choose between your real life and a life that you're always dreaming about was so interesting. LOVED THIS BOOK!!

I'm not sure what to say. I didn't really enjoy the book, but I was invested to listening through to the end. The author has a nice style that I liked. The process of grief that was portrayed and contrasted between her and Jonah was done very well, especially. I liked that they ended up together in the end (although I agree with Jonah, it does feel like a fairy tale ending).
Yeah, not a very good in-depth review, sorry!

I absolutely loved this book. Ms Silver has the ability to create characters you come to see as friends and find yourself rooting for them throughout the book. Lydia is just that kind of character. I wanted her to find her way from grief to happiness. At its core this book deals with loss, but so much more. It has a strong sense of comfort and friendship too. Lydia has lost Freddie, in the first chapter, but she has her mum and sister and a network of people who care about her. So ultimately this book is about hope. I hope you will read it and love it.
