This was historical romance at its prime. I loved every second of reading this richly developed story. I ran the gauntlet of emotions and was cheering for Magnus and Deirdre. They made it through all the heartache, challenges and political backstabbing to find true and lasting love.

I don’t often read childhood sweethearts type romances but I was so invested in this. Definitely check content warnings though, there were some very dark moments in the story. The only downside to this story is that the rest of the Sinclair family was barely present for any of it which was a bit of a bummer. I’m hoping the next book isn’t like that but I think it might be too.
