I mean, it's a nice, beautiful illustrated book, but the story part is weak and. And idk what I will do with it rn, since I can't have it exposed anywhere in my room or such.

I thought this was a fun little story to read, but I didn't love it. I feel like there just should have been more of this book. It was split into two halves, one a more historical account of the life and times of Dr. Spencer Black, and the other half was his catalogue of "extinct" animals and illustrations. The first half of the book was captivating; it's always fun to read a story of someone basically going insane. Creepy, but interesting. I wish the whole book, or at least most of it, told a more in-depth story of what happened. I was disappointed that there were so many loose ends at the end. This was a fun little read while at work, to help get me out of my reading slump.

While it was an interesting read, I am a bit disappointing that the first half of the book was more Frankenstein rather than something like Journey to the Center of the Earth or something a bit more fantastical than what it turned out to be. Especially that ending. The latter half of the book is nice, could've made the entire book just that, but I'm not complaining. Interested in looking forward to where the author goes from here.
