I picked up this book because it was offered as a Hoopla Bonus Borrows (meaning my library isn't charged for it). I consumed this book in audiobook form while taking my own small child on a walk.
I've seen all the movies but read none of the books. In general, this was almost like a radio-play of the movie. Hearing the source material for the first time, I think the casting was excellent and the actors (especially Snape and Hagrid) were at the top of their craft to bring these characters to light given how they are described in the novel. I appreciated that there was an additional scene which was cut from the movie, perhaps too difficult to bring to light on the screen, so that was a nice bonus.
Overall it was okay. And for that, the rating I've chosen.
Pity the author has gone on to become an internet troll of the highest calibre.

A pretty good opener for the story. Unfortunately, I feel like this is more Rowling settling rather than the story itself settling. There's a lot of things where I see where she's coming from, but it's just not like the rest of the series. It is, none the less, pretty decent, and with cleverly put red herrings.
